ytmp3.fi in one sentence
On 16 September 2026, ytmp3.fi served no converter of its own: every request we made to the address answered with a single HTTP 301 redirect to https://mp3cow.com, a differently branded site, and that is where each of those requests ended up.
So the search ytmp3 fi cannot be answered with "here is what ytmp3.fi does". The domain still resolves and is still paid up at the Finnish registry, but the page you read carries a different name on it.
What we saw on 16 September 2026
Every line below comes from requests made from one machine that day, with a desktop Chrome user agent. Another day or country may differ.
| What we checked | What we saw |
|---|---|
| Address typed | https://ytmp3.fi/ |
| Result | HTTP 301 with location: https://mp3cow.com: one hop |
| Final address | https://mp3cow.com/, HTTP 200 |
| Deep links | Not preserved: /faq/ and /robots.txt each returned 301 to the bare origin, so old URLs land on the mp3cow.com home page |
| Nameservers | 1-you.njalla.no, 2-can.njalla.in, 3-get.njalla.fo |
| Certificate | Let's Encrypt certificate for ytmp3.fi, valid 30 July to 28 October 2026: the host is maintained |
| Title where you land | "Youtube to MP3 Converter", one subheading, 336 visible words |
| Branding where you land | The string ytmp3 appeared zero times in the destination HTML; mp3cow appeared nine times |
| Converter form | Yes: a text field and a submit control labelled Convert. No HTML form element and no button element; submission is handled in JavaScript |
| External scripts, ad and tracker signals | None found. No external scripts and no iframes; the only outside hosts named were its own API, youtube.com and the W3C namespace |
| App or notification prompts | None on the landing page: no notification prompt, no service worker, no app or extension prompt. Its changelog links out to an Android APK and to Firefox, Edge and Opera add-ons |
| Registry record (.fi RDAP) | Registered 11 April 2025, expires 11 April 2027, active. No registrar disclosed; the one entity is a registrant, "Njalla Okta LLC", Saint Kitts and Nevis |
| Internet Archive | Earliest capture 15 April 2025, latest 3 July 2025: none of the present redirect |
Those two captures are the only record of it we could retrieve. The 15 April 2025 capture, four days after registration, shows a self-branded converter titled "YTMP3 - YouTube to MP3 Converter", whose FAQ said it was financed "through advertising revenue that appears after MP3 downloads". By 3 July 2025 the copy claimed instead that "Our service is ad free". So it worked as a standalone YTMP3 converter until at least that date.
The registry does not say who runs it. The .fi record names no registrar and one registrant, an entity in Saint Kitts and Nevis, on Njalla nameservers. TorrentFreak's 2017 report on Njalla explains such entries: the service, founded by Pirate Bay co-founder Peter Sunde, buys domains in its own name, so "customers don't buy the domain names themselves". That 2017 article names a different company from the one in the ytmp3.fi record, so the connection is our inference from the Njalla nameservers rather than something the source states. Either way, the record identifies a privacy arrangement, not an operator.
What mp3cow.com is
The destination is a small MP3 converter that carries no YTMP3 branding on the page you land on. Its own meta description reads: "Convert any YouTube video to MP3 with MP3Cow. Fastest ad free youtube to mp3 converter on the web without registration for all devices."
When we sent a video id to the endpoint that page calls, it answered with JSON pointing at a captcha step on its own API host. We did not complete that captcha, so we obtained no file and can say nothing about the audio it delivers. Nor does the site: no bitrate figure appears on it, and no MP4, WAV or FLAC option is offered. Its FAQ says MP3 only, and the copy claims a 90-minute limit on video length and a typical conversion of 20 to 25 seconds.
Searches of its HTML for the signatures of Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, OneSignal, PropellerAds and Adsterra returned nothing. One correction belongs here: an automated scan of ours logged an ad network against ytmp3.fi, but that scan had silently followed the redirect, and the only onclick in the destination HTML was its own Convert handler.
Two caveats sit against that. The site tells visitors "We don't use advertising" and points at a donation button, while its privacy policy says it "may use third-party analytics tools or ad networks". And its script has a branch that injects two buttons whose link targets and labels come from the server; we never triggered it, so those destinations were not visible to us.
On timing, the registry is clear and the rest is not. mp3cow.com was registered on 25 July 2025 through Cloudflare, three and a half months after ytmp3.fi, so the .fi address cannot always have pointed there. Its two inputs are character for character what the archive captured on ytmp3.fi in April 2025, and the conversion endpoint kept the same file name on a different host. That is a resemblance, not a finding of ownership: the two registry records disclose no party in common, the .fi record naming no registrar at all and mp3cow.com's naming Cloudflare, and we cannot say when the redirect was put in place.
Is ytmp3.fi safe?
We found nothing published about ytmp3.fi by name. We looked for press coverage, vendor write-ups and court records naming it and came away with none, so there is no verdict either way. Nor are we moving findings about other addresses onto this one: ytmp3.fi serves no code at all.
What exists covers ytmp3.cc, or the name in general. Moonlock's write-up on ytmp3.cc, from March 2026, separates that page from the flow around it, calling the site itself "perfectly fine" while warning that "Redirects, adware, and suspicious download prompts may begin appearing". PCrisk's removal guide for ytmp3.cc, updated in April 2022, says the site "opens pages that demand permission to enable notifications", while noting that "It does not specifically operate as malicious website". Softorino's YTMP3 safety guide, updated in August 2026, names no domain and argues that "The risk comes from the converter ecosystem around it". All three sell software of their own. The label travels; the sites do not. We checked the other endings one by one: what ytmp3.cc does today, where ytmp3.nu lands and the parking stub on ytmp3.com.
The legal record points elsewhere again. TorrentFreak reported in June 2026 that Canada's Federal Court ordered nine Canadian internet providers to block four stream-ripping domains: Y2mate.ws, YTmp3.lat, Savefrom.space and Spowload.cc. In a passage quoted from the order, the court found the respondents run platforms that are themselves "copycats" of similarly branded services previously deactivated. Music Business Worldwide reported on 19 June 2026 that the ruling was won by Music Canada for Sony, Universal and Warner. The domain named there is ytmp3.lat, not ytmp3.fi. The order is Canadian, and Virgin Media's published list of UK court orders carries no ytmp3 domain of any ending.
What we can say for ourselves is narrow: we read what one address returned and what one page loaded, on one day, from one machine. We did not run anything through an antivirus or finish a conversion. That is a description, not a clearance. The general checklist is unchanged:
- Watch the address bar. If the ending you typed hands you to a different name, you are dealing with whoever runs that site, and anything you read about the first no longer applies.
- Refuse any request to send notifications; our guide to stopping ytmp3 pop-ups has the steps per browser.
- Keep pop-up blocking on. Google notes that Chrome blocks pop-ups by default, and Apple warns that some use "fake buttons that resemble a close button".
- Treat "ad free" as marketing until the privacy policy agrees, and stop if a site offers an installer or an extension instead of a file.
- Copyright rules apply whatever a converter says: YouTube's terms of service, dated 15 December 2023, bar downloading any part of the service or its content except as the service expressly authorises or the rights holder permits in writing. Our takedown page sets out where we stand.
If you came here for a converter
If you searched for ytmp3 fi because you have a link and want a file, use this site rather than chase an ending that now points elsewhere. Paste one YouTube link and choose MP3 at 192 to 320 kbps, or MP4 at up to 1080p. It takes one video per link, does not do playlists, and asks for no account. No ads, no app, no browser notifications. Or read the checked list of ytmp3 sites first, then open the converter.
Questions
Is ytmp3.fi down?
No. On 16 September 2026 it resolved and answered. It simply served nothing of its own: every request we made, including deep links and its robots file, returned a 301 to mp3cow.com.
Why does a .fi address end up on a different brand?
Because whoever controls a domain can point it anywhere. We observed the redirect and the registration dates: ytmp3.fi in April 2025, mp3cow.com in July 2025. We cannot say when the redirect started or who decided it.
Was ytmp3.fi ever a converter itself?
Yes. Internet Archive captures from 15 April 2025 and 3 July 2025 show a self-branded site titled "YTMP3 - YouTube to MP3 Converter", with its own FAQ and changelog. The archive holds nothing after 3 July 2025.
Is mp3cow.com safe?
No source we could cite says either way, and we are not filling that gap. We can report what we read: no external scripts, no ad or push code found, a captcha before any download, and a privacy policy that reserves the right to use ad networks.
Is ytmp3.fi run by the same people as ytmp3.cc or ytmp3.gg?
Not on anything we can show. A shared name is not evidence of shared ownership, and no source establishes a link between them. ytmp3.fi's own registry record identifies a privacy service rather than a named operator, so it does not point to anyone at all.
