ytmp3.gg and media.ytmp3.gg: what the site does, and how to judge whether to trust it

ytmp3.gg in one sentence

On 16 September 2026, typing ytmp3.gg into a browser did not leave you on ytmp3.gg. The address answered with a redirect and handed us to media.ytmp3.gg, a page titled "MP3 Converter" built around a file you drag onto it rather than a link you paste. Forwarding is all the bare domain does today.

The question people bring to it is "is ytmp3.gg trustworthy": that phrasing, in a Reddit thread, sits near the top of the results for the brand name. We will not answer it with a badge, because nobody can certify a converter from the outside. This page shows what we saw, quotes the only third-party report we could find that names the hostname, and sets out checks you can run yourself.

What we saw on 16 September 2026

All of it came from fetching the addresses with a desktop browser user agent and reading what came back: the page source and the three JavaScript files it loads. We did not run the site through antivirus software and did not convert anything.

What media.ytmp3.gg is

Not a second site. We fetched the apex and the subdomain separately and both replies were byte-identical, 54,837 bytes with the same checksum, so media.ytmp3.gg is simply where the property lives. It is also the indexable address: the canonical tag is self-referential, meta robots reads "index, follow", and robots.txt allows everything and names a sitemap. The neighbours handle this differently, and on the same day ytmp3.cx and ytmp3.ai each redirected to convertytmp3.org, a separate domain, while ytmp3.gg keeps everything under its own name.

That sitemap shows the shape of the place: 677 URLs, each stamped with the date we checked. The landing page carries about 1,513 words and one job, video file in and MP3 out, so most of those addresses are elsewhere on the site. The page loads nothing from another domain, but the scripts it does load name outside hosts on convert1s.com, y2mp3.co and save4k.net, two captcha services, and the site's own DMCA subdomain. It also presents itself as the brand: its og:site_name is "YTMP3", and the language switcher offers 22 languages, with 29 hreflang values counting x-default and regional variants.

The front door changed recently. The Internet Archive's earliest record of ytmp3.gg is a redirect captured on 7 November 2025, and the first archived page body, from 1 December 2025, was titled "YTMP3 – Free YouTube to MP3 Converter" and built around a text field whose placeholder read "Paste URL or search keywords". Nine months later that box is gone. We can date the before and the after, but not the switch, so we will not guess.

Is ytmp3.gg trustworthy? A way to answer that yourself

"Trustworthy" packs several questions into one word, which is why the answers you find are unsatisfying. Split it and each part becomes checkable.

1. What does it load? Open the network panel in your browser's developer tools and see which other domains the page fetches from. A converter pulling scripts from advertising networks has handed part of its behaviour to them. Here we found no external script host at all: the three scripts the page loads all come from media.ytmp3.gg itself.
2. What does it ask for? Three prompts are worth noticing: permission to send notifications, an app or extension to install, and money. This page asked for neither of the first two and advertises the third. A paid tier is not a mark against a site, just worth knowing first.
3. What does it do with your file? This you cannot verify from a browser. The site states that conversion "runs entirely in your browser" and heads a section with the claim that files are never uploaded to a server. Those are its statements about itself, not tested by us, and worth reading as claims.
4. Who is behind it? The registry record is all we have: registered on 18 October 2025, registrar NameCheap, registrant "Vidcombo". We found nothing that ties the domain to any other ytmp3 address and nothing that rules a link out, so we will not imply either.
5. What has anyone independent said about this hostname, and when? Not the brand, the hostname; confusing the two is the commonest error here. Dates matter as much, because a converter can change hands or change its advertising in a week.

Run those five and you end up where we did: with observations and no verdict.

What the reports say

On 16 September 2026, the only third-party page we could find naming a ytmp3.gg hostname was an automated scanner report: no independent review and no press coverage at all.

It is PCrisk's website scanner result for media.ytmp3.gg, at scanner.pcrisk.com. The scan of 5 August 2026 records 0 of 91 threat engines flagging the host, a trust score of 95 out of 100, and the line "No security vendors flagged this site at the time of scanning". It adds that the host does not appear in the Tranco popularity list, that the scanner first saw it on 11 May 2026, and prints its own caveat: the result was 42 days old when we read it.

The same scanner gave ytmp3.cc 93 out of 100 on 16 July 2026, and ytmp3.cc is a domain security desks have written removal guides about. A static scan does not watch advertising or notification behaviour, so a clean result answers a narrow question.

Those guides matter here mainly as a warning against carrying findings across domains. MalwareTips published a removal guide for ytmp3.cc on 1 November 2022 and a separate guide for ytmp3.nu on 3 February 2023, each describing a site that "tries to trick you into subscribing to its push notifications". Tomas Meskauskas covered ytmp3.sh for PCrisk on 8 August 2022 in a guide to the ads that site served, filed under the threat type push notification ads, unwanted ads and pop-up ads. Moonlock's Ray Fernandez put the risk in the advertising layer rather than the code in a write-up published on 3 March 2026, saying of the sites he examined that the website itself, in the way it is coded and designed, is "perfectly fine".

None of those four write-ups mentions ytmp3.gg, and none of their findings carries over to it. We cover the domains they do name on what happened to ytmp3.cc and on ytmp3.nu and ytmp3.la.

The brand is far older than this domain. TorrentFreak's October 2017 report on converters blocking UK traffic described YtMp3.cc closing its doors to UK visitors, about eight years before ytmp3.gg was registered, and its August 2023 report on a YTMP3 lawsuit over DMCA notices named CreativeCode Ltd, incorporated in Anguilla, as the operator of ytmp3.nu. Neither concerns the .gg domain, which is why we keep a checked list of the ytmp3 addresses people search for.
